Description

Geophysical survey (resistivity, magnetometry and GPR) and topographical recording of the motte identified a range of previously unknown features including a stone-built apsidal-ended structure, possibly an Anglo-Saxon mausoleum, to the west of the extant church, a further stone building to the north, possibly an early Norman chamber block. Its location suggests it preceded the construction of Berry Mount, which suggests it may have been constructed in the 12th century.
