Description

{1} Investigations have continued between the deserted village of Mallows Cotton and Scalley Farm, where concentrations of Iron Age, Roman and early to middle Saxon pottery have been identified during fieldwalking. Some 20 trenches were opened. Two pits were the only features that were of possible Saxon date, although an aceramic group of postholes and two gullies nearby may be associated. The remains of two Roman burials and a further quarry pit were also found within the same trench. A number of Iron Age pits and ditches were also found at SP 9824 7308.
