Description

Site of new parish hall on north side of lane opposite Town and County Garage/Inkerman Terrace. Trenches examined; whole plot levelled (especially at NE end) and foundation trenches c1m deep. Natural was a thick blue clay occuring c0.3m down in trenches in the south half of the plot. At the east end of the site, a trench had cut through burials (possibly 19th or 20th century), skulls visible. A section drawn in the south-east corner of the site identified modern disturbance (including cellar walling) down to 1.5m bgl and natural at 1.7m bgl.
