Description

Monitoring of topsoil stripping prior to gravel extraction revealed thetimbers of a possible Roman bridge, crossing a silted former river channel.Samples were taken for dating before the structure is preserved beneath alayer of wet clay. {1} Timber posts revealed during quarrying in 1996. Assessed by Maisie Taylor as not suitable for dendrochronological dating
