Description

Detailed geophysical survey to the south of the Roman Town on the opposite side of the A45 was carried out in September 1997. The results indicate surviving remains of extra-mural activity in close proximity to the Roman town. These consist of enclosure ditches, droveway and pits. A limited area to the west of the main survey area, land parcel 0045, was also surveyed in detail and successfully identified the possible extent of modern ironstone quarrying. On the opposite side of the A45 a resistivity survey was carried out to detect any buried archaeological remains. The results only identified the remains of the old A45 prior to the new trunk road being constructed.
