Description

Observation was made in 1986 of topsoil-removal during re-alignment of the A5 trunk road (Watling Street) at Norton Crossroads, close to the Roman site of Bannaventa. There was no evidence of Roman activity south of the modern junction, but to the north of the junction part of the southern defences of the Roman town were exposed.
