Description

{1} Planning consent was given for the erection of three new houses on land just to the north of the scheduled castle site. As a result, an archaeological excavation was arranged and trenches were dug on each of the house sites to establish the presence, or otherwise, of late Saxon activity in the threatened area. In the three trenches, only trench 2 revealed any archaeological features. Trenches 1, 2 and 3 were each 4m square, the latter being excavated to the bedrock level and the former down to the underlying subsoil.
