Description

A limited evaluation of an earthwork enclosure was undertaken. The work was carried out at short notice in connection with an appeal by the owners against the refusal of planning permission for residential development. The appeal was subsequently refused. Three trenches were excavated with a total length of c 90m. One was excavated across the enclosure perimeter and two within it. No significant features were recorded within the enclosure, but several substantial features were recorded in the trench across the northern perimeter of the enclosure including a large ditch and rampart along the inner edge.
