Description

[1} Two trenches were excavated in an attempt to identify the late Saxon defences. The defences weren't found although a number of late Saxon industrial features were. Site lay at foot of fairly steep slope & waterlogged nature of ground which had preserved timber structures suggests that area between here & river may well have been damp in Saxon period.
