Description

{1} A trial excavation was undertaken in April 1979 behind the premises of the Nat West Bank in the Drapery prior to extensions to the bank. The objectives were to establish how early occupation had spread to this part of town and to test the line of the late Saxon defences as postulated by Lee. No evidence of the defences was identified. Medieval pits and an oven were recorded.
