Description

{1} Watching brief undertaken during excavation of a service trench. A discontinuous series of road surfaces of medieval date onwards overlying pits of 12th-century and late 13th to 14th century date were observed. {2} Contractors section across Newlands at junction with Princess Street in August 1972. Several earlier metalled street surfaces located. Medieval pottery associated with the surfaces. The section was part of the Greyfriars redevelopment which involved the destruction of part of Newlands Street. The section exposed was cleaned down and showed several metalled surfaces.
