Description

{1} Part of the series of excavations undertaken by Alexander between 1961-1964. Houses between Bath Street and Scarletwell Street were cleared and and in 1961 a trench, 40m long and 1m wide was cut between these two streets. Between 6m and 17m to the north of Bath Street bedrock was not found. Instead there were steeply dipping layers of loam and sand filling a pit or ditch some 11m wide and probably 7m below ground level.
