Summary

This is probably a purpose built cardboard box factory for the boot and shoe trade. It is two-storeyed and as originally built, shortly before 1899, it had an L shaped plan with six bays facing Cromwell Road on the west, and eight facing Allen Road on the south. The Cromwell Road range formed the front, with a large entrance formerly occupying the cental two bays. In the early 20th century the Cromwell Road frontage was extended by 14 bays. Further large additions were made behind the original factory and later a two storey building was built gable-on to Allen Road on the eastern edge of the site.
