Building record 7203/66/1 - Boot & Shoe Factory, Denmark Road

(Percy Collins, Dilks & Martin, Frank Eady Press Ltd, Phoenix Mats) This heel factory was built around 1900. The original building of two storeys and six bays is constructed in orange brick with segmental heads and blue brick sills to the windows. On the north front to Denmark Street, the ground floor windows are markedly taller than than those on the first floor. There is an original wide entrance at the weest end.In the early 20th century the factory was extended eastwards as far as Oswald Road by the addition of two tall north-lit ranges.These appear to be linked to the factory at the rear, but on the Denmark Road frontage they are seperated by a timber- fronted monopitch-roofed loading bay.
