Building record 7203/67/1 - Boot and shoe factory (Robinson Bros.)

A large three-storey shoe factory stands on the corner of Roberts Street and Grove Road and may have been built in the 1890s by the firm of Robinsons Brothers, who occupied it into the first half of the 20th century. It is fenestrated as fourteen bays to Roberts Street on the north and originally just three to Grove Road on the west. It is plainly built, with segmental heads and blue brick sills to the paired windows and a roof which is hipped at the north-west corner. In the early 20th century a three storey one-bay privy tower and a two-storey five bay office range were added extending the Grove Road frontage, and two single storey north-lit ranges were added in the angle formed by this and the original factory.

{1} Large factory building on the corner of Robert Street / Grove Road originally owned by Robinson Bros shoe manufacturers, 1900. Building is still in use and in multiple occupation by a number of firms. The building has been considerably changed with the insertion of new windows etc. Building has a very functional appearance.
