Monument record 130/23 - Bronnley Soap Manufacturers (Former Hopcroft & Norris Brewery)

{4} Brewery. Old Brewery Walk, rear of Market Place east. There were two breweries, both located off plots to the rear of High Street (Market Place), one to the east and the other to the west. Both have now gone. The one to the east of street was converted into accommodation for Bronnley's Soap Manufacturers in the 1950's, but has subsequently been demolished and a housing estate erected on the site. The site of the brewery to the west of the street is now occupied by the Co-op supermarket.
Bronnley soap manufacturers came to the town in 1952 and centred their works in one of the old breweries, plus a large new factory and offices. The brewery building has since been demolished, but a small stone building off Brewery Walk 'Bronnley reception and buying office' still remains.
