Full Description
{1} Post Office
The post office indicated on maps of 1900 and 1926 is located on the corner of High Street and Station Road. The building was in use as a post office between 1893 and 1942, when it moved to the present location in Havelock Street. It is of stone construction with an archway leading to the back of the property (presumably for stabling). The building is of early construction - a date stone to the rear of the building indicates that the section fronting onto Station Road is of 1670 date. The building is currently being partially utilised as a Chinese take-away and domestic residence, but the remainder is out of use.
