Building record 7198/57 - Belle Vue Works (James and Curtis), Alfred Street

A three storey boot and shoe factory on the north side of Alfred Street. The brick built works has a slate covered pitched roof. Ordnance Survey maps and other sources, suggest that it was built c.1899.

Three storey boot and shoe factory on Alfred Street. Now in use by'Premier Finishes'. Building appears to remain intact with external original features remaining. There are a number of small buildings behind the main frontage. Film 8, photo 3-5

{2} Substantial factory originating in the late 1890s. Probably built for James and Curtis, founded in 1887. Prior to the outbreak of WWI manufactured 'medium-grade' footwear under the 'Crocus' and 'Belle Vue' brands. Since the 1950s the works has been used for the manufacture of Leather finishes. Earliest phase is a three-storey, eight-bay frontage. Gabled east-west and is plainly built in red brick with a blue brick plinth and sills.
