Summary

A two-storey last works built on the north side of School Street close to the junction with Victoria Street. The brick-built works has a slate covered pitched roof. Ordnance Survey maps and other sources, suggest that it wsa built circa.1880

Full Description

Salmon and Company, Engineering Firm, School Lane / Victoria Street
Established by 1870. Specialised in agricultural implements. Large building on corner of the two roads. Has the word 'Salmon' inscribed on the frontage. The front of the building remains intact, but the rest has been substantially re-modelled. The building is now in use as 'Victoria Pine Factory' Film 8, photo 13. (1)
At junction of Victoria Street and School Lane to east of town centre. Two storey office building dating from the 1870s, formerly the office-cum-showroom of T.Salmon & Co. agricultural engineers, later Salmon & Jackson, boot and shoe machinery manufacturers whose Victoria Works extended both sides of Victoria Street in the 1890s. The name Salmon is in stone on the gable. Now used as a pine furniture showroom. (2).
