Full Description
AE Smith and Son (Kettering) Ltd, Carrington Street
Founded in 1898 by Alfred Edward Smith wheelwright and coachbuilder. Work included repairs to broughams, wagonettes, traps and gigs. Soon began to work on motors - by 1920's was making 3 or 4 differing bodies to fit onto an Austin chassis. Went on to make van, bus and fire engine bodies and later designed trailers to the Grand Prix racing teams. (1)
