Full Description

{1} Medium sized factory on Havelock Street to rear of large villa house on Rockingham road. Partially out of use and converted to flats. Film 9, photo 21.

{2} The Wellingborough Motor Ominbus Company Limited bought Rockingham House in 1921 and plans were drawn up for a garage within the grounds. The garage was designed to hold ten buses but was not brought into use until 03/02/22, by which time of course, the company had passed to United Counties Omnibus and Road Transport Company Ltd. In 1935 a newer, larger garage was obtained and the Rockingham Road site was leased to a Mr Scott. Over the years the property was leased to various tenants and during the War the garage was requisitioned by the Ministry of Aircraft Production. In the spring of 1949 the property was let to His Majesty's Postmaster General and ten years later it was sold to the Ministry of Works.
