Full Description

Greening Works, Regent Street
Two storey plain factory dated 1896. Windows etc replaced to upper storey. Now in use by 'Hanro Kettering'. Film 10, photo 5,6. (1)

One or two of the factories on Regent Street may be Haddon and Groom Boot and Shoe Manufacturers and / or Hales and Jawett Boot and Shoe Manufactury.
Thomas Seddon's Cardboard box manufacturers was also located on Regent Street. (1)
{2} The Building was erected in 1896 for use by 'Greening Works'. The factory is of two storeys with a carriage arch to the east of the building leading to a yard with single story north-lit sheds. The upper floor of the building was gutted by fire in 1985 and windows and other features on the first floor have been replaced by modern insertions. The ground floor of the building retains its original features (including the cast iron window frames)
A ventilation system was added to the north lights of the factory. This comprised a small slit window in each of the gables with a wooden shutter arrangement behind it (manually operated). It is assumed that this system was added at a slightly later date as the north lights do not all look contemporary, but the ventilation system is identical in all of the north lit sheds.
