Summary

An Anglo Saxon urn was found in 1910 on workings of the Kettering Iron and Coal Co, to the West of Thorpe Malsor and later given to Kettering Museum. Other items, found at a later date, but probably from the same site are, two swastika brooches, wrist clasps, two spearheads and nearly complete shield bosses, a fragment of a sword, and parts of at least two skeletons.

Full Description

{1} A small urn was discovered immediately south-west of Thorpe Malsor during ironstone mining in 1910. later, and probably from the same site, two swastika brooches, wrist clasps, two spearheads of Swanton's H2 type, part of a sword and at least two skeletons were found.

{3} An Anglo Saxon urn was found in 1916 on workings of the Kettering Iron and Coal Co, to the W of Thorpe Malsor (SP 832789) and later given to Kettering Museum.

Other items, found at a later date, but probably from the same site are, two swastika brooches, waist clasps, two spearheads and nearly complete shield bosses, a fragment of a sword, and parts of at least two skeletons. All finds were presented to Westfield Musuem, Kettering by the Kettering Iron and Coal Company.

{6} The above objects are in Kettering Musuem and some are on display. The indicated site is under winter crop.
