{1} Irthlingborough Working Men's Club, Victoria Street / College Street / Scarborough Street
1892 - working men's club set up in Irthlingborough - main problem was to find a venue which would allow them to drink beer.
1896 purchased land for building of a working men's club - opened in September of 1896. Building had a commanding position and is centrally situated, present a very pleasing exterior; it is constructed of red brick with stone facings the roof being of red tiles. Describes bar, smoking room, entrance hall, lavatories, basement with skittle room, beer cellar, store room and kitchen - upstairs a billiard and bagatelle room, a reading room and a committee room.
Messrs Sharman and Archer of Wellingborough were the architects. Fire gutted the building in 1899. Redeveloped at this date.
In 1940 the corrugated iron building was pulled down and a new building erected in its place.
Corrugated building had replaced original working mens club in 1899.
The building is shown as 'Club' and 'Hall'. The club building is the original structure with 'Working Men's Institute 1896' on the side. The hall has been replaced with a modern building. Film 2, photo 1,2.
Plans for new Harmonic Hall erected in 1940 - interior included an enlarged stage, indoor lavatories, ladies and gent's cloaks and a box office.
