WW Chamberlain and Sons Ltd, Heel Manufacturers, Wood Street
WW Chamberlain began producing heel stiffeners for the boot and shoe trade in a workshop in Rushden in 1913 - from there developed WW Chamberlain (Associated Companies) Ltd in Wood Street, Higham Ferrers (behind the family home). Company makes upper and lining leathers for the shoe trade, heel stiffeners, boot and shoe components and large quantities of reconstituted leather fibreboard which it uses in its own factories. Now has factories in Northampton, Kettering, Rushden, Higham Ferers and Chelveston. Building not indicated as 'Heel Manufacturers' on Wood Street, however large building which is set off to the rear of the street has been demolished and replaced with modern housing. (1)
