Summary

Heel manufacturers. Built as a shoe factory in the early years of the 20th century, this complex stands on the west side of Westfields Terrace. The earliest part is a range set gable-on to the street, apparently of one storey, with a stack on the west gable. The site was extended in the 1960s , when a large single storey range was built to the north. Probably at the same time the eastern end of the original building was rebuilt as a framed, flat-roofed office block on two storeys.

Full Description

{1} Ashford and Campion, Heel manufacturers, Westfields Terrace
William Ashford and William Campion, who had previously owned a heel factory in Newton Road, Rushden set up a new factory in Westfield's Terrace, Higham Ferrers in 1924. There is a structure owned by 'Ashford and Campion' in the location shown as boot and shoe factory on the map, but this appear to either be a new building altogether or one that has been considerably modernised. Film 6, photo 21,22.
