Full Description
{1} New Viaduct opened on 23rd October 1936 at a cost of £55,750 and was at that time the longest bridge in the county. The old bridge also remained in operation.
{2} Carries the A6 over the Nene between Irthlingborough and Higham Ferrers. This impressive 1936 reinforced concrete structure survives in almost unaltered form. It was designed by Kettering architects Gotch, Saunders and Surridge, and opened by government minishter Hore-Belisha. When built it spanned the River Nene, two lesser water courses and the Northampton to Peterborough Railway. The trackbed of the latter currently provides a route for a conveyor belt system used for gravel extraction
