Full Description

{1} Almshouses. Mr George Newman left money in his will in 1855 for almshouses for six widows or spinsters of the parish. The foundation stone for the houses was laid on 25th June 1866. The houses are still in existence today and appear to be in the same usage today (clearly owned by a central body as all the doors are painted in the same colour). Each house has an elaborate porch way and a dormer window. Plaque on the frontage of the house 'Newman's Charity'. The corporation of Higham Ferrers have erected these houses for the purposes of the charity.
