Summary

The original county Police Station was erected in 1851 and enlarged in 1894 and 1909. it was demolished in the second half of the 20th century. The current Police station and Magistrates' court was built in 1968-71.

Full Description

{1} The County Police Force was created in 1840 with Kettering as the central town for the area - acting as a focal point for the 9 police in the area. Erected in 1851 and enlarged in 1894 and 1909. The original building has now been demolished and replaced with a new structure for the same useage.

[2} The current Police Station and Magistrates' Court was built in 1968-71 by the County Architect's Department (A N Harris and John Goff). A large, quite formal composition. It has a low central block with links to a two storey court on the right and three-storey police station on the left.
