Building record 3884/0/190 - Warehouse at the rear of 9 Silver Street

This two-storey building appears to be the surviving part of a range extending to the rear of 9 Silver Street. In the late 19th century, this was the premises of a grocer and tallow merchant. It is built of brick with a slate roof. The surviving range probably dates to 1870-1880.

{2} This 2-storey building was part of an extensive complex to the rear of 9, 9a and 10 Silver Street. No. 9 was the premises of William Wyldes, grocer and tallow merchant, during the late 19th century. The 1885 plan and subsequent maps show that the range extended along the north side and west end of a long narow yard, with minor buildings ranged along part of the south side as well. The surviving range is immediately behind 9a Silver Street. Stylistic details such as blue brick window sills suggests that it is no earlier than the mid-19th century, and probably of circa 1870-80. 20th century demolition has removed the other ranges in the yard.
