Building record 3884/0/165 - Former boot and shoe factory, Great Park Street

A three-storey shoe factory on the north side of Great Park Street was built in the late 19th century. The original four-bay brick-built factory building was extended to the east in the early 20th century.

{1} Factory Great Park Street
Shown on 1926 map simply as large structure. Fairly plain, functional building but with oriel window to first floor and decorative door. Three storey, possibly two phases - change on roof line. Film 6, photo 25, 26.

{2} The 1885 OS map shows the factory sharing a rear yard with 2 3-storey houses, which may have formed part of a single development. In the mid-1890s Gilbert's acquired the factory; they made various additions, principally a large eastwards extension in the early 20th century. Buildings in the yard and against the east elevation of the factory may have formed part of the works but appear to have been lost in later developments.

{3} A 3 1/2 storey brick factory with a central pediment, inscribed the 'Wellingborough Boot and Shoe Company'.
