Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
This gabled workshop range on the south side of Alma Street was built in two phases. The original two-storey section was built in the mid 19th century and was used a shoe factory; possibly occupied by George Hacksley, a boot blocker. The three-storey section, built in the same brick, was added in the late 19th century probably as part of the conversion of the factory to a leather works. The whole range is now used as a textile works.

Full Description
{1} Industrial buildings, Alma Street. Two storey industrial workshops behind terraces on Alma Street. Film 7, photo 24.
{2} The earliest building on the site is a 2-storey workshop. In 1849 George Hacksley, a boot blocker, had his works in Chequers Lane, with which this building may conceivably have been connected; stylistically however, a date two decades or so later seems more likely. The building was extended in 1899, possibly for leather storage.
{4} Several small boot and shoe industry workshops in a very plain style, stand between Alma Street and Chequers Lane SP894681.
