Building record 3884/0/179 - Former boot and shoe factory on George Street

A boot and shoe factory that is situated on George Street. This former shoe factory was built in the early 20th century for C.F Forster and Sons wholesale shoe manufacturers. Located on the east side of George Street this brick-built factory consists of a two-storey office and service block with single storey north lit sheds at the rear of the factory.

{1} Industrial building, Yew Walk
Large building on Yew Walk - uncertain function, but likely to be industrial works with office frontage. Does not appear to be in use. Film 22, photo 5-8.

{2} This former shoe factory was built probably circa 1901 for the newly established company of C.F. Forster and Sons, wholeslae shoe manufacturers. It remained in Forsters' ownership until at least the WWII, subsequently becoming a grocery warehouse. It would appear that only the front of the factory on George Street has been converted to housing, with the north-lit range to the rear surviving but apparently vacant.
