Full Description
{1} Cardboard Box Factory, Stanley Road
Large building shown as cardboard box manufactury on maps of 1900 and 1926. Local knowledge informs that it later became a shoe factory. Only the ground floor of the building remains (local knowledge indicates that the rest was burnt down in a large fire on the property) and is in use by a number of small businesses.
{2} A former cardboard box factory, originally of two storeys (in part at least) and built in several phases on a plot with a faceted frontage on the south side of Stanley Road. The 1899 OS map and a clear straight joint in the brickwork show that the western two-thirds of the frontage forms the earliest part. The 1899 OS survey shows a wedge shape yard at the rear of the factory and bythe time opf the 1924 survey had been filled wih additional buiildings leaving a courtyard behind the original yard entrance. H.W. Chapman Ltd, who occupied the site in the early 20th century, also had card box factories in Rushden and Irthlingborough.
