Wellingborough School/Free Grammar School Upper School Union Road / London Road
'Wellingborough Independant Co-educational day and boarding school 3-18 years' on plot of land between Union Road and London Road. Number of buildings shown on early ordnance survey maps including red brick chapel and a small single storey 'sanitorium' - both which are still standing, the latter is now the modern languages block. Some of the buildings have date stones eg 1880, 1888 etc. Film 15 no 4-8, 25, Film 16 no1). (1)

Free Grammar School
Established in 1595. Has both an upper and a lower school. The upper school is free to the inhabitants of Wellingborough, for the teaching of Latin only .The building for the upper school was erected in 1880 in London Road. The lower school is connected to the national system and teaches reading, writing and accounts. In 1906 the govenors of the school opened a grammar school for girls. (1)
