Full Description

{1} The mill was demolished in 1970 leaving the mill house standing.

{4} The mill was certainly in existance by the time of the Ordnance Survey's original surveyors drawings of the early C19th, but is not shown on Eyre's map, published in the late C18th.

{6} History:
1219 Mill referred to as Molendino de Horepol
1777 Joseph and John Davis, millers at Harpole
1823 A timber above the mill race carried inscription "Mill New Bilt by W.P. Milwright 1823"
1871 When advertised for sale, the mill was of 3 storeys, with 3 pairs of stones, dresser and smutter
1878 Mill advertsied to be let and described as in 1871 with the addition of 'silk dresser'
1919 Mill in working order
1967 Mill in ruins. The waterwheel and roof of the building had gone, the floors had collapsed and the walls crumbling yet the main vertical shaft was still upright. The pit wheel and other parts of the gearing were still within the building although not in their working positions
1970 Remains of the mill demolished. The pit wheel and inscribed beam were taken to Billing Mill Museum od Milling.
