Monument record 7362/1/1 - Foxley Mill

Summary
A mill is recorded at Domesday in 1086, but there is scant documentation. A mill is marked on the 1810 survey plan and in 1827 Bryants map marks it Foxley Mill. In the 1960s the building was devoid of machinery and has since been rebuilt as a house.

Full Description
{1} Mill described as derelict in 1928 but still containing a very narrow waterwheel.
{2} 1086 At Domesday survey, Merefin was held by the Earl of Moreton, with a mill valued at 12d.
14th C Held by John of Foxley
c1540 After seizure at the Dissolution, the mill passed to Lady Catherince Levinson and subsequently to a charitable trust.
1960s Building devoid of any machinery although in the wheelpit alongside were the remains of a wooden overshot water wheel, of clasp arm construction, 11ft 6in diameter and width 3ft 8in with 36 'buckets'.
1990s Acquired for rebuilding as house
