Monument record 7932/0/0 - Wicksteed's engineering works

Please read our .

Summary

Wicksteed Leisure was started in 1876 by Charles Wicksteed to make steam ploughing equipment and simple machine tools. At one time there was an elaborate entrance arch to the premises but this was demolished some 20 years ago. The land slopes down westwards from Lawson Street so that there is a marked difference between the height of the walls at each end. Of the 8 gable ends onto Lawson Street, two have louvred 'portholes' whereas the others have tall windows. Along Bath Lane there are 16 blank brick bays. Along Digby Street there are 7 louvred and 5 blank bays and also 2 gable ends. The firm's current production focuses on playground and similar leisure equipment
