Monument record 1160/0/406 - Abington Community Centre

Remains of Second World War air raid shelter at Wheatfield Road South. The wooden building has now been demolished, but the two white-painted structures at either end survive.

{1} Junction of Wheatfield Rd South and Briton Terrace, Abington. Now used as Abington Community Centre; comprises large wooden hut with corrugated iron roof; white painted brick structures either end – one possibly standard brick ARP Post? Local information suggests ARP use originally. Good condition. Documentary sources quoted. 3 colour photos.

{5} Google Street View imagery indicates that the woode structure was demolished between 2009 and 2012 and replaced with the current brick structure. The two white structures survive.
