Summary

A World War Two battle headquarters (pattern 11008/41) at the former Kingscliffe/ King's Cliffe airfield. The battle headquarters is in the south-west corner of the former airfield, with the concrete obsevation cupola visable above ground. A number of details were still evident in 1997, such as external hooks for camouflage netting, and internal fixtures and decorative scheme. It may have been built in 1941.

Full Description

{1} Located in the south-west corner of the airfield near south end of runway. Type 11008/41. Useful description. Condition assessed as good with presence of internal fittings identified as a rare occurrence. Two photos. Identified as No.90 on airfield record site plan IWA/793/51.

{3,4} The Battle HQ at TL02809709 was located close to the south end of one of the main runways. Its interior is subject to some flooding but is accessible with care. Several wooden fittings are present but are of uncertain origin (also recorded under TL02809709).

{5} A World War Two battle headquarters at the former "RAF King's Cliffe" airfield, noted on the Defence of Britain database at Kings Cliffe, Northhamptonshire, TL 0280 9709. The battle headquarters is in the south-west corner of the former airfield, with the concrete obsevation cupola visable above ground. Although there was some damage and flooding, a number of details were still evident in 1997, such as external hooks for camouflage netting, and internal fixtures and decorative scheme (whitewash and half-height green plaster). The record suggests that it was built between 1940-1941.
