Summary

A World War Two cantilevered pillbox at the former Kingscliffe/ King's Cliffe Airfield. It is situated at the west side of the airfield at the end of the course of the runway. It is a concrete and brick mushroom shaped pillbox. It may have been built in 1941. When visited in 1997 it was said to have been in fair condition and was situated in a field under an arable crop.

Full Description

{1} (This is the FC Construction recorded at cTL02069779 in New Source 4). Located in field near western end of runway. Neighbour to that at TL01959785 above. Not accessible for further recording being in centre of arable field. One of 4 such pillboxes at the airfield all within the western part. Condition not recorded. Marked as 107 on airfield record site plan IWA/793/51.

{3} A World War Two pillbox noted on the Defence of Britain Database at the former "RAF King's Cliffe" Airfield, King's Cliffe, Northamptonshire, TL 01205 9782. It is situated at the west side of the airfield at the end of the course of the runway. It is a concrete and brick mushroom shaped pillbox. The Defence of Britain Database record suggests that it was built in 1940-1941. When visited in 1997 it was said to have been in fair condition and was situated in a field under an arable crop. (Despite its condition being given as fair, a tree was noted as growing out of the middle of the pillbox).
