Full Description

{1} Between the southern margin of New Plantation and the old quarries there, between 20 and 140 metres east of the road, are several enclosure fragments, two formed by double banks (stippled) with a ditch between, and third by a single bank with traces of ridge and furrow in the space between it and the edge of the plantation. The field to the south has long been ploughed and was under crop at time of visit. Several air photos examined showed no crop marks but it is likely the enclosures extended south of the plantation. Whether their configuration was determined by limits of the quarry, or the similar curve of the quarry edge is coincidence is uncertain. The enclosures could be of quite recent origin, but in plan suggest earlier date.
