Summary

A World War Two pillbox, at Polebrook Airfield. The pillbox is situated in the area of the former bomb store (to the south of the main flying field). It is a variant of a possible Air Ministry pattern design, the concrete structure is hexagonal and has a brick protected entrance. The pillbox was camouflaged with earth and grass. It may have been built in 1940-1941 when the airfield was first constructed.

Full Description

{1} Identified as pillbox on airfield Record Site Plan.

{2} Hexagonal pillbox. Two loops one above the other in two faces. Previously reported by M. Osborne at TL093862.

{3} Hexagonal. Brick and concrete. Good condition. Two loops, one above each other in two adjoining elevations.

{5} A World War Two Pillbox (variant) at Polebrook Airfield, Polebrook, Northamptonshire, TL 0901 8600, noted on The Defence of Britain Database. The pillbox is situated in the area of the former bomb store . It is possibly a a variant of a Air Ministry pattern type. The concrete structure is hexagonal and has a brick protected entrance. The pillbox was camouflaged with earth and grass. It may have been built in 1940-1941. When it was visited in 1997 the pillbox was said to be in good condition.
