Full Description

{1} Bridge. Early C19. Painted brick with brick and stone coping, patched with blue brick. Elliptical arches. A twin bridge, i.e. road bridge doubled to south by turnover bridge for towpath crossing.

{3} Turnover Bridge No.47, combined with the bridge carrying the Rothersthorpe to Gayton road over the Grand Union Canal, was specially constructed to take the towpath over the canal. The ramps are suitable for horses to cross, and their position on the same side of the bridge enables boats to pass under the bridge without unhitching the towing rope.
