Full Description

{1} Cross base. Medieval. Shaft and cross C19-C20. Ironstone ashlar. Square base and plinth.

{4} Medieval cross, rebuilt in 1865. Was on the south side of the porch. Plans and descriptions, also design for new cross;

{5} In the village of Eydon (SP 5450) are the remains of a cross of red stone, consisting of a step 2'1" high, a socket, 2'6" square, and a piece of shaft of which 8" remain. The cross was rebuilt in 1865.

{6} Undated photo.

{7} The above information {5} almost certainly refers to the churchyard cross situated at SP 54124997. The rebuilding has been in the original style with new shaft and head. See photos.

{8} No change since report of 21 4 70. Surveyed on AM at 1:2500.

{9} Little information is available concerning the rebuild, but it appears the cross remains were taken apart in the process. It seems likely that when the the cross was rebuilt it was also resited therefore it is now out of context with any associated archaeological deposits relating to its construction and use. The remains are listed Grade II.
