Full Description

{1} Pair of cottages, now one dwelling. C17 and C18. Uncoursed squared limestone and ironstone, and uncoursed rubble. Left cottage has thatched roof; right cottage has artificial stone slate roof. Brick stacks. Left cottage, C17, of three bays and 2 storeys has C20 conservatory across 2 left bays forming porch. C20 doorway in second bay from left with C20 window in left bay and original window in right bay with 3-light iron casement and wood lintel. First-floor windows have C20 wood casements. Low one-storey projection to left with roof of main block continued with wood lintel. 6-panel door and C20 lean-to porch, flanked by windows with wood lintels and 3-light iron casements. Similar windows first floor. Interior: Two blades of raised cruck exposed in C17 cottage.

{3} Building recording survey was carried out during improvements to the cottage. The primary reason for recording was the list description {1 above} describing the presence of the raised cruck. A site visit was undertaken on the 17th July 2011 to view it, however, the truss was interpreted as not being a raised cruck and recording was limited to observation of the removal/lowering of the floor and the removal of the stair.
