Full Description
{1} House. Possibly originally two. 2 adjoining ranges, left mid/late C17, right mid/late C18. Regular coursed ironstone with irregular quoins. Thatched roofs with gable parapets; stone ridge stacks with cornices. Each range originally 3-unit plan. Left range 2 storeys; 4 windows. Entrance in second bay has 4-plank studded door with strap hinges. On left, 3-light stone mullioned window. Door and window have hood mould. Small oval window to right. Sundial above door. Right range: 3 storeys; 4 windows. Entrance in second bay has late C19/early C20 stone porch with coped gable, kneelers and ball finials (one missing). Ribbed door in moulded basket arch doorway with square head and hood mould. Inside a moulded 6-panelled door. Small oval window to right. 2 ground floor windows on right have hood moulds; one has glazing bars. Painted 3-light leaded wood casements with painted wood lintel throughout both ranges. Right range has half-hipped roof. Massive stack with 5 square shafts at junction of the ranges. Right return side has blocked one-light and 2-light stone mullioned windows on first floor. Rear irregular 2-storey range has semi-circular bread oven projecting on right. 3-storey range has C19 single storey addition with slate roof. Interior: Entrance hall in 3-storey range has ceiling beam supported on turned wood column, simple corner fireplace and C18 style round-arched corner niche. Panelled room to right has open fireplace. Room, formerly 2, in 2-storey range has bolection-moulded corner fireplace with C18 painting set in overmantel, open fireplace and ceiling beam supported on another wood column. Room beyond has open fireplace with bread oven, shaped niche, and cupboard with H-hinges. 8-panelled doors. 2 straight flight staircases with turned balusters. Stud partition on landing. Bedroom with good C18 iron grate. Late C19/early C20 single storey additions on left and right.
