Full Description
{1} Two early Saxon pot vessels from a cemetery were found in 1947. They comprised of a bucket urn and an undecorated bowl. Both were of C4th and C5th types.
{3} Roman settlement and kiln lies south-west of the village. Roman pottery and kiln bars were found in a sand-pit in 1947, together with the Saxon finds listed below;
{4} Saxon cemetery, on the same site as the Roman material. Two vessels were discovered, one a footed Buckelurne and the other a bowl, both of 4th or 5th-century types;
{9} The finds were made in Aplin's gravel pit, Milton Malsor. Only one late 5th century buckelurne and an undecorated bowl were rescued, but there may have been others. (Sketches of the two vessels supplied).
{10} Asplins pit was at SP 731552 (as sited in 1- gravel pit detail shown on 6" 1958 also). It ceased to be worked c 1947-8.
{11} (Sketch on envelopes with the item confirms the find spot). The pit is now filled in.
{12} There are large sand deposits around Milton Malsor and two complete urns dating to the 4th or 5th centuries were found in another sand pit near the village;
{13} Brought to Northampton Museum for identification and donation. Possibly also additional finds made by N.N.H.S. in 1947.
