Full Description

{1} Country house, formerly farmhouse. Mid C17, greatly extended 1921 for Major Pomeroy. Coursed squared ironstone, C20 plain-tile roofs, stone internal stacks. 2-unit nucleus becoming right cross wing of E-plan country house. 2 storeys and attic; 9-window range as extended. C17 right wing has fine central 2-storey gabled porch to right side with rusticated ashlar front, round-arched doorway with ridged plank door and imposts, first floor moulded string course, pedimented above doorway, vertical oval window with 4 keyblocks and similar smaller leaded window to gable. Similar first floor side windows and small rectangular leaded ground floor side windows with moulded stone surround. Date 1660 scratched on stonework of porch with other later dates. 2-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window to ground floor right of porch with hood mould. Blocked window to first floor right. 3-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion windows to ground and first floors left of porch with hood mould. Windows to ground and first floors of gable ends, similar 2-light windows to gables, all with hood moulds. Stone-coped gables with kneelers. Fine C20 extensions in similar C17 style, banded with limestone between wings. 2-storey central gabled porch on entrance side with stepped 3-light stone mullion window and datestone inscribed P/RK/1921. Similar stone mullion and mullion and transom windows to those of original wing. Central door to garden front with bolection-moulded stone surr flanked by 5-light mullion and transom windows with hood moulds. Hipped roof dormers to main range between wings. Single-storey service wing to left side of left cross wing. Interior: ogee-stop-chamfered spine beam to ground floor room in original wing and open fireplace in same room with ogee-stop-chamfered bressumer.
