Full Description

{1} Former barn and stables. C18, altered C19 and C20. Coursed squared ironstone, slate roofs. L-plan. Irregular fenestration of C19 and C20 casement windows. Quoins, hollow-chamfered stone eaves and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Brick to end wall of stable. Barn has 7-bay king-post roof with struts to principal rafters and raking struts.

{3} The Old Malting comprises two stone wings that appear to be of different dates. The north west- south east wing is of 7 bays and retains a fragment of the germination floor. The original fenestration arrangement survives on the south west lateral wall and north west gable wall. At the apex of this gable wall is an eroded datestone and on the ground floor is an original timber unglazed window. The site of the furnace and kiln floor is in the adjacent north east- south west range. A vertical joint suggests different dates of construction for the two wings, suggesting that one had been rebuilt. The former kiln floor retains the timber base of a conical kiln flue. The rest of the north east- south west range seems to have contained stabling. Graffiti previously noted on the stonework showed the date 1799.
